Obama says world has sent North Korea a ’message’ with new sanctions

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama hailed the adoption of UN Security Council sanctions against North Korea, saying it sent a “simple message” that Pyongyang must abandon its weapons of mass destruction programs.

Obama said the unanimously adopted sanctions sent “a firm, united, and appropriate response by the international community” to a January 6 nuclear test and February 7 missile launch.

“The international community, speaking with one voice, has sent Pyongyang a simple message: North Korea must abandon these dangerous programs and choose a better path for its people.”
