Faulkner’s five-for sends Pakistan packing from WT20


WEB DESK: Seam bowler James Faulkner’s five-for helped Australia beat Pakistan by 21 runs in the last group match of the Super10 ICC Twenty20 World Cup at Mohali on Friday.

All the hopes for winning ICC Twenty20 World Cup have been dashed and  Afridi’s dream shattered to become world champions again.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to opted bat against Pakistan.  While batting first Australian start was little bit bad when they lost their early two wickets of Usman Khuwaja and Aaron Finch.

Then Skipper Steve Smith played responsible inning along Shane Watson. Smith scored out-class half century and scored unbeaten 61 runs off 43 ball while Shane Watson  scored 44 runs off 21 balls.

Australia set 194 runs target for Pakistan. Wahab Riaz Took 2 wickets and gave 35 runs for Pakistan.

In reply, Sharjeel Khan took good start and scored blistering 30 runs as a opener, then Khalid Latif and Shoaib Malik took responsibility and scored 46 and 40 runs respectively. While Skipper Shahid Afridi scored only 14 runs off 7 balls.

Pakistan failed to dog the target and only concluded their innings at the score of 172 for 8 out.

James Faulkner bowled very well  and got 5 wickets and gave 27 runs for Australia.
