ISLAMABAD: Former leg spinner Abdul Qadir on Tuesday urged Pakistan team to turn from an unpredictable to a consistent outfit, advising PCB to make wholesale changes in the current side should they fail to perform in the World Twenty20 in India.
He reminded the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that the players like Twenty20 skipper Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Muhammad Sami, Muhammad Hafeez etc. have been tested time and again.
“Therefore after the World T20 they should be discarded if they failed yet again”.he said. The deceptive leg-spinner of the 1980s analysed that a lot of talented cricketers were playing the first-class domestic cricket.
“PCB must give them chance in the Pakistan team,” he said, adding the PCB and selectors should stop favouritism. Speaking about Afridi’s comment “We don’t get such love even from Pakistan” that had hurt the sentiments of some Pakistanis, Qadir said his statement is just like his poor batting.
He said what Afridi is today is because of his Pakistani fans. Otherwise on the performance he has been giving for sometime now he doesn’t deserve to be in the team. “He should regret his statement and must think before such utterances” he said.
Qadir also lashed out at the players who have come out in support of Afridi’s statement. Talking about the Pakistan-Bangladesh encounter in Kolkata on Wednesday (March 16), Qadir said on paper Pakistan team looks good “but I do not understand why they lose to poor teams on big occasions.
“Pakistan is an unpredictable team but it is time they show some quality performances and consistency,” he said adding Pakistan should bat first if it won the toss. “Pakistan has a very good bowling attack and can overcome Bangladesh easily if it bats first,” he said.
