Eat right to improve your sight

WEB DESK: The food we consume helps our body stay healthy or fall towards diseases. Everything we eat affects us. If we eat a lot of oily food, it triggers heart diseases, if we consume a lot of sugar or salty foods, it triggers diabetes. Similarly, the balanced diet helps us keep our body healthy.

Here are five of the foods that can help us keep a six by six eyesight.

1 Carrots are very beneficial for our eyes. They have high amounts of Vitamin A, which helps them give their color and therefore are very beneficial for the eyes. And carotenoids — the compounds that give these fruits and vegetables their yellow, orange and red pigments — are thought to help decrease the risk of many eye diseases.

2. Fish

2Cold-water fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which may help protect against dry eyes, macular degeneration and even cataracts. In case you don’t like fish, omega-3 supplements are also an option.

3. Leafy Greens

3 Spinach, kale and collard greens, to name a few, are full of lutein and zeaxanthin, plant pigments that can help stem the development of macular degeneration and cataracts. Broccoli, peas and avocados are also good sources of this powerful antioxidant duo.

4. Citrus Fruits

5 Oranges, grapefruits, lemons and berries are high in vitamin C, which may reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.

5. Eggs

4 The vitamins and nutrients in eggs, including lutein and vitamin A (which may protect against night blindness and dry eyes), promote eye health and function.
