Blast in Govt bus in Peshawar kills 15, several injured

PESHAWAR: At least 15 people lost their lives while 40 others got injured when a blast rocked a govt  bus passing Sunehri Masjid road early morning on Wednesday, Aaj News reported.

According to the reports, at least 15 persons are feared dead and 40 injured. The bus was carrying over 40 government officials from Mardan.

Initial reports claimed that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted inside the bus.

5 to 6 Kg explosive material used in the blast. Windows of nearby buildings broke due to the impact of the explosion.

Rescue teams and security teams have reached the scene.  The injured have been rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital.

Meanwhile, Police has cordoned off the area.

The Peshawar bound bus picked passengers from different stops, reports claimed.

This is the third time a bus carrying government officials has been attacked.

In 2013, a similar bus attack took place in Peshawar which  killed 19 and injured 44 officials of the Civil Secretariat.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack in Peshawar today that claimed more than 15 lives and injured many.
