Ayyan Ali files reply in SC over ECL matter


ISLAMABAD: Ayyan Ali, indicted in currency smuggling case on Thursday filed reply in the Supreme Court (SC) in case that demands authorities to put her back on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The 18-pages reply was submitted in the Supreme Court by Ayyan’s counsel Lateef Khosa. The reply stated that customs authorities never informed about putting her name on the Exit Control List. She learnt about it after media reported the inclusion of the name.

The reply further stated that the prosecutor wants the case to remain subjudice. Trial court handed over her passport and allowed foreign visits.

Ayyan Ali stated in the reply that she needs to visit her ailing mother in Dubai and take care of some business commitments.

Ayyan Ali, a supermodel was apprehended at Islamabad airport in March last year after Airport Security Force (ASF) found more than USD 500 million cash in her bag.

Earlier in 2016, Sindh High Court (SHC) had ordered omission of her name from the Exit Control List and return of her passport. The Supreme Court had annulled high court’s verdict and sought reply within a week.

High court’s decision was stayed on plea filed by customs authorities in SC.
