Tamim’s unbeaten blitz drives Peshawar Zalmi to victory

SHARJAH: Opener Tamim Iqbal’s unbeaten 80 runs helped Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by 7 wickets with an over and three balls spared in the thirteenth match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Zalmi pacers Wahab Riaz and Muhammed Asghar took two wickets apiece. While, United bowling failed to yield fruits.

Tamim Iqbal, while receiving man of the match award, said everybody contributed for the victory and the pitch was batting-friendly that helped him post good runs. “It is a team victory.”


Put into bat, Khalid Latif’s 59 runs in 41 balls had enabled Islamabad United post a modest 153 target for the loss of six wickets. He has been awarded coolest player of the match for his belligerent 50.

Shahid Arfridi had won the toss and put Islamabad United to bat first. At one stage, Islamabad United were looking to add 20 to 30 more runs in the last two overs but Wahab Riaz and Junaid Khan conceded only 8 runs to finish the inning on 152/6.

Islamabad United skipper Misbah-ul-Haq had safely pouched the high-flight catch of Muhammed Hafeez (25) off Muhammed Sami’s ball. Hafeez has become the 3rd Pakistan player after Shoaib Malik (5711) and Azhar Mahmood (4032) to score 4000 runs in T20 cricket.

Peshawar Zalmi were 71 for 2 after 10 overs. Then, they needed 30 runs off 28 balls with seven wickets in hand. Later, they need 14 runs off 18 balls with seven wickets in hand. A complete satisfaction could be felt with Zalmi players as they had way earlier sensed the win.
