SL thrash UAE in low-scoring battle

WEB DESK: Defending champions Sri Lanka defeated associate team United Arab Emirates by 14 runs in a low-scoring match of Asia Cup Twenty20 event played at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium, Dhaka.

Earlier, UAE won the toss and elected to field first and Sri Lanka posted 129 for 8 after 20 overs.

Dinesh Chandimal scored 50 runs in 39 balls. UAE captain Amjad Javed took three wickets by giving only 25 runs and despite being wicket less, Ahmed Raza slow left-arm orthodox bowler only gave 14 runs in his four overs.

Commentators and viewers were smelling upset but Sri Lanka took four early wickets at the score of 16. Then it became difficult for UAE to come back in the match.

Swapnil Patel played 37 runs in 36 balls but it was not enough to cross the winning line and UAE end-up on 115 for 9 after 20 overs.

The next match will be played tomorrow between UAE and host Bangladesh at 06:30 p.m PST.
