PSF to host $130,000 worth of squash tournaments in 2016

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will be hosting six international squash tournaments this year, including four of $25,000 and two of $15,000, Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) said on Tuesday.

Group Captain Aamir Nawaz, Honorary Secretary, PSF, said the four $25,000 events will be held in Islamabad while the $15,000 events will be organised in Karachi or Lahore.

“Our players will get the maximum opportunity to grab Professional Squash Association (PSA) points from these tournaments and boost their world rankings,” he said. Aamir also sounded profoundly hopeful that Pakistan will be able to host an event of $50,000 next year. “Besides Islamabad, we are also trying to host international tournaments in other cities as well.”

He said that Nasir Iqbal and Farhan Zaman will represent Pakistan in the British Open men’s event scheduled to be played in mid March in England.

“We are positive that Nasir and Farhan will perform with all their might in the British Open and will improve their international rankingx,” he said and added that the next six months are very important for players to improve their international rankings,”.

He said the federation is accommodating the players in all regards and last year Pakistani players participated in almost 50 international tournaments.

He said five Egyptian players will be seen in action at Karachi in the Squash tournament for the first time in April.
