PM reviews progress on Sahiwal coal power plant

SAHIWAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that the present government was setting new traditions by completing mega development projects at brisk pace with utmost speed.

He was addressing a gathering, after witnessing the progress of work on 1320 MW coal fueled power project in Sahiwal.

The prime minister appreciated the ongoing speedy work on the Sahiwal Power Project and said even such speed was not witnessed in China.

He said that the government was taking equal interest in completion of power projects in Punjab, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and other areas of country.

Nawaz Sharif said that these power projects, after completion, will ensure in resolving the energy crisis in the country.

He said that coal run power projects with capacity of three thousand six hundred MWs will be completed by year 2018.

Earlier, briefing about the progress on the project, the CEO of China Pakistan Electric Company, Song Taachi said that due to great interest expressed and cooperation extended by the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the work on this project is going ahead speedily.

He said that the project would prove a milestone in the energy sector of Pakistan. He termed the project as a symbol of Pak-China friendship.

The president of China Huaneng Group also addressed on the occasion and thanked the Prime Minister to visit the plant to view the progress on the project.
