ISLAMABAD: After successfully arranging two back- to-back $25,000 international squash events last year, Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has persuaded Professional Squash Federation (PSF) to allow it stage four international squash events during the ongoing year, carrying the same prize money.
“The first of these high-profile events will be held by the end of next month or at the beginning of April,” Qamar Zaman, vice president PSF told APP on Monday. He said top squash players from several countries, including Australia, Egypt, USA, Canada and Malaysia would take part in these events.
“Efforts are also being made to hold $50,000 international events in Pakistan,” he said adding that WSF had assured that after these four events Pakistan would be granted events, carrying bigger prize money. “The holding of international squash events will help improve ranking of our players also.”
He said President PSF Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman was showing keen interest in the uplift and promotion of squash in the country adding that it was the result of his support that international squash activities had returned to Pakistan.
He also expressed satisfaction at Pakistan players’ performance in the recently concluded squash events in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games stating that they had made the nation proud by claiming gold and silver medals.
