Pak veterans gets third win in Veterans Cup in Lanka

LAHORE: Pakistan veterans notched up their third successive win in the over fifty Veterans Mini World Cup handing over 6-wicket defeat to hosts Sri Lanka Cavaliers at SSC Cricket Ground on Thursday.

The home team batted first were bowled out at 175 in 30 overs and Pak veterans answered with 181 for 4 in 24 overs, thanks to a master knock from top scorer Sajid Ali (79).

Sajid remained unbeaten and helped his side to maintain unbeaten run in the competition. He batted with sheer concentration and put Lankan attack at sword. Kamil Khan 39, Raja Arsahd and Dastageer Butt with 14 runs each were the other notable run getters from winners. From Sri Lanka P. Abegunaseakra captured two wicket for 19 runs and N. Dabare and M. Perera took one wicket apiece for 35 and 41 runs..

Earlier, the home team got useful help from their leading batsmen, P. Abegunaseakra 46, A. Perera 36, B. Jayawardene 35 and W. Waragode 32. Pak mix attack of spin and pace caused trouble for the opponents with skillful bowling. Ghaffar Kazmi 2/24, Muhammad Javaid 2/29, Muhammad Akram Raza 2/33 and Javaid Hayat 1/34 impressed with good line and length bowling.
