PESHAWAR: Squash wizard Jansher Khan Sunday announced launching of Junior Squash Academy as desired by President Pakistan Squash Federation Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex.
Talking to APP, Jansher Khan disclosed that Director Sports PAF Sports Control Committee Group Captain Asghar Awan, former World Champion Qamar Zaman would also be there running the affairs of Academy.
He said before selecting players for U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17 categories trials matches were conducted in the supervision of former World Qamar Zaman, Group Cap. Asghar Awan and he himself part of the committee.
For running the affairs of the Academy, the following trainers including Kamran, Nazir, Safeer Ullah, Gulab Sher, Amjad Khan, Khalid Khan, Maqsood hanif and Riaz Hussain were selected.
He said the objective of the Academy, like other Academies of the world is to train and coach players at grassroots level so that to enable Pakistan to achieve the lost glory.
The selected probables, he said, would be training and coach rigorously for 3 to 4 years time. He lauded President PSF for taking keen interest and given him a go ahead signal.
He said through this way new talent will come forward and Pakistan would be able to achieve a graceful position in the World of squash where it ruled for almost 37 long years.
Living legend Jansher also expressed concerned over the six Pakistani players participated in the British Junior Tournament played in Sheffield England in January this year.
He disclosed that as advised by President PSF the players would be provided all-out facilities and support like the players have in any other academy of the world.
He said now all focus would be given to the players’ part of that Academy. He said all-out facilities would be ensured to the players in the Academy but now it up to the players to show their skills. He said time has come that we should unite only to achieve our set goal. He expressed the hope that through this Academy Pakistan would be able to come among top ranked countries of the world in squash.
About the Academy, he said, the decision in this connection was taken in the last general council meeting of the PSF.
Jansher disclosed that he was going to UK very soon and would have a meeting with the President PSA to grant international event to Pakistan.
He said PSF had very successfully arranged US $ 25000 International
Tournament and now a request would be made to PSA to grant Pakistan International tournament worth prize money of US $ 50,000 and five to six tournament of US $ 10,000 prize money so that to provide ample opportunities to the players to participate in the International events with the aim to better their international ranking.
He said with the grace of Almighty Allah now law and order situation in Pakistan has been much improved. “I will try my best to convince the CEO of PSA for granting international tournaments to Pakistan,” he added.
He said President PSF Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman has given him full assurance to provide foolproof security to the international players during these events.
Jansher also congratulated Pakistan team for winning gold, silver and bronze medals in 12th SA Games held in, India. He said our target is World Championship and for this we have to work hard to achieve the lost glory.

Under-13: Asad Ullah, Noor Zaman, Talha Iqbal, Khushal Riaz, Affaq Khan, Hamza Zahid, Fawad Sharif and Ali Sher.
Under-15: Rashid Doulat, Saqib Iqbal, Abdul Wahid, Uzair Shoukat, Maavia Hussain, Ahmad Hassan, Hamza Sharif and Khizeer Hayat.
Under-17: Zeeshan Gul, Zeeshan Malik, Abbas Zeb, Ali Jan Sher, Zeeshan Zeb, Haris Iqbal, and Saif Ullah.
