Govt believes in empowerment of local govt representatives: PM

BAHAWALPUR: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday vowed to strengthen and empower the local governments to address the problems faced by the people.

“The people have pinned great expectations with the local representations and they will fully empowered to serve the masses,” he said while addressing the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) workers in Bahawalpur.

Nawaz Sharif pointed out that the country was faced with multi-dimensional challenges including terrorism and energy crisis. The PM said the government was trying its best to provide basic facilities to the masses.

The prime minister said the government was fully aware about the problems specially energy crises being faced by the masses.

He expressed his firm resolve to overcome the energy problem during the tenure of his government.

The PM said work on three projects for production of electricity through gas is in progress which will produce three thousand and six hundred megawatts electricity after completion by next year.

He said China is all-weather friend and it is investing massive amount of US$46 billion which was biggest in the history of the country.

He said the National Accountability Bureau needed to take up cases only after thorough initial investigation and said no one should be harassed, without verification and solid proofs.  He said he would also take up the issue with the chairman NAB and said if any person was unduly persecuted, the government would take action.

Muhammad Nawaz Sharif further stated that recently government has made an agreement for the purchase of gas costing billions of rupees with Qatar government, which will be provided at concessional rates by Qatar due our brotherly relations.
