Car racer demands biannual events in Cholistan

MULTAN: A car racer, who grabbed third spot in stock race category of eleventh Cholistan desert jeep rally, said here Friday that the mega car sport event should be held biannually under the international rules and regulations.

Some car race tracks should be developed in the country to enable racers practice properly and car racers from foreign countries should also feature in the car sport events to spice up the competition, said Ghulam Nabi Shadi Khel.

The racer had experienced trouble twice in the middle of the race but managed to secure third spot. “My vehicle’s steering developed fault, probably a crack somewhere, and later, in the speed zeal, I missed to record my entry at a check post and had to return to meet the mandatory requirement before rejoining the race on the difficult sandy track.”

Ghulam Nabi Shadi Khel said, he completed the 220 kilometre long track in three hours eight minutes and 22 seconds, some five minutes behind the top position holder, Abdur Brahman Khan, who took three hours, three minutes and six seconds.

Shadi Khel said that in addition to encouraging local youth to join car sport, foreign racers should also feature in the race to make it more interesting and colourful. He said that car race was a costly sport and they had to practice whole year despite absence of a proper race track.

The car racer said that the Cholistan jeep rally should be held twice a year i.e summer and winter editions instead of once in a year. It would bring more fun to car racers and car sport lovers.

He said that arrangements matching international standards for facilitating car racers, induction of foreigners in the race, and incorporating international rules and regulations governing the car sport event would be the first step to catch the attention of the world’s known car racers, car sport lovers, organizers and big sponsors.
