Assistant Director Information Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kohloon in a statement on Tuesday informed that Punjab had 80 percent share in total production of pulses in the country.
In Punjab, pulses are cultivated at an area of 2.491 million acres and total production volume was 0.42 million tonnes annually. He recommended that there was need to improve the production further in order to meet local nutritional requirement.
Pakistan used to spend huge amount for import of pulses,he said. About Punjab government efforts to improve pulses production Naveed stated that Punjab government had initiated two year program with Rs 127 million to facilitate farmers and enhance pulses yields in the province.
Similarly,Punjab Seed Corporation was also distributing quality seeds and multi-crop drills on subsidized prices.As many as 546 demonstration plants have also been introduced in this regard in Punjab.
