Terrorist attack Bacha Khan university

CHARSADDA: Gunmen attacked Bacha Khan University in Charsadda town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wednesday morning, Aaj News reported.

The attack left over 20 people dead and over 50 people injured.  At least 14 bodies and 13 injured have been brought to the District Headquarter Charsada. The dead include five security officials and the rest of them are students.

Some of the injured have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital.

According to the reports, the terrorists barged into the university where an event on the death anniversary of Bacha Khan was being attended by a large number of students and their parents.

Army troops, police and personnel of Elite Force engaged in a gunfight with terrorists.

1: 52 pm: The bomb disposal squad cleared the campus and declared that the operation had ended. Security officials detonated four suicide jackets and confiscated six hand grenades from the campus.

12:30 pm: A search operation is going on inside the campus by security forces.

12:00: Mujahid, a rescue official said that students have been shot in the head like they were in the Army Public School Attack. He saw four to five attackers, and over 13 bodies lying inside the campus.

A survivor who is a student of computer science at the university said that the firing started at about 9:00 am. He said that the attackers went on a shooting rampage, and they killed chanting ‘Allah hu Akbar’.

DG ISPR, Asim Bajwa said that the Pakistan Army has shot dead four terrorists.


11:33 am: DG ISPR Asim Bajwa tweeted that terrorists have been contained within two blocks of the University.


10: 50 am: More than 50 people have been rescued, reports claimed. Exchange of fire is going on, eyewitnesses claimed. A Chemistry professor Hamid Hussain has been confirmed dead. chem

Deputy Inspector General Saeed Wazir told Reuters that the number of gunmen was unclear but police had moved into the university and a gunfight with the attackers was under way.

“We launched an operation inside the university and are trying to rescue the students and staff of the institution,” Wazir said.

Shabir Khan, a lecturer in the English department, said he was about to leave the hostel for the department when firing began.

“Most of the students and staff were in classes when the firing began,” Khan said. “I have no idea about what’s going on but I heard one security official talking on the phone to someone and said many people had been killed and injured.”

“Gunmen have entered the university campus from the southern side,” said Fazal.

“There are male and female staff members and students on the campus,” he said, adding he had been on his way to work when he was informed of the attack.

“There was no announced threat but we had already beefed up security at the university.”

10: 45 am: According to our reporter Farzana Ali, security officials are trying to rescue the students and staff. Although the numbers of terrorists cannot yet be confirmed, initial reports say that three gunmen entered the university premises.

10: 40 am: Once again, extensive firing has been started inside the university. Meanwhile, Pakistan Army men and rescue officials have entered the university.

10: 35 am: According to the reports, over 3,000 students are present inside the university building, while several girls are inside hostels. Members of staff also reside within the building. The injured students have been shifted to the nearest hospital.
