Rashid expresses reservations over attitude of ECP

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid has expressed reservations over attitude of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) towards alleged financial corruption by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“A founding member of PTI had filed a case in the Election Commission pointing out irregularities and corruption in collection of party funds abroad and their utilization,” he said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad.

Pervaiz Rashid said PTI lawyer sought deferment of the case fourteen times on different pretexts and finally took the case to the High Court on the plea that Election Commission could not hear the case.

He said the logic of PTI counsel was queer as he could have raised this objection at the very outset of the hearing of the case in the Commission, which he did not.

Pervaiz Rashid pointed out that instead of presenting point of view of the Commission and defending the case in the High Court, counsel of Election Commission today seconded the arguments of PTI lawyer, which is a source of concern.

He urged the EC to continue hearing of the case and decide it at the earliest as it has already been delayed considerably.
