ISLAMABAD: Former leg spinner Abdul Qadir on Thursday questioned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on what basis they have life-banned Danish Kaneria when the International Cricket Council (ICC) hasn’t given any decision against him.
Talking to APP, Qadir said the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had banned Kaneria and not the ICC, then on what grounds the PCB has barred him from playing cricket when he earns for a living from the game. “Danish didn’t commit any crime like Muhammad Amir, Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt then why he is barred from playing cricket?” Qadir questioned.
He said on one side the PCB allows Amir to play in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and then in the national team while on the other hand they stop Asif and Butt from doing so who too have served their punishments. “You cannot have two sets of rules for players when it comes to allowing them back into the national squad,” he said.
Qadir said Danish should appeal against his ban as to get justice from the board or through the court. “PCB’s treatment towards Danish has made him feel that he is not a Pakistani and is from other country and religion,” he said adding he has every right to know what evidence is there to ban him for life and why is his case not been put up by the PCB.
Returning to cricket affairs, Qadir said the Twenty-20 skipper Shahid Afridi must be given the authority to select the team for the World Cup. “Selectors, team management, coaches and Afridi must sit together and discuss beforehand the game plans, players etc for the mega event.”
Responding to a question, Qadir said though the team lost the T20 series against New Zealand but still we should support Afridi and give him the confidence to win the World Cup which is his last one.
