TEHRAN: The meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was held in Tehran on Tuesday.
The members of the Iranian cabinet were also present in the meeting.
The meeting is an effort to defuse tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, National Security Advisor, Lt General (rtd) Nasir Khan Janjua and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi were also present in the meeting.
Talking to media in Tehran, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan’s top priority was to defuse tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
He said that Pakistan considered defusing Saudi-Iran tension as sacred mission and both brethren countries hailed the Pakistan’s efforts for mediating role.
Expressing satisfaction over his visits of Saudi Arabia and Iran, the prime minister said that Pakistan would appoint a focal person on Saudi-Iran issue and sincere efforts were being done in this regard.
He said Saudi Arabia and Iran were aware about the potential threat of terrorism. He said extremism and terrorism were common threats and joint efforts needed to overcome it.
