RIYADH: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud in Riyadh on Monday to play mediator’s role to defuse tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
They discussed important regional issues with a focus on the tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Members of the Saudi Cabinet, National Security Advisor Nasir Khan Janjua and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi were also present on the occasion.
Saudi King also hosted a luncheon in honor of prime minister and his delegation.
Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will also visit Iran tomorrow, and have a meeting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. While playing a mediatory role, he is making efforts to help defuse tension between the two countries urging them to resolve differences peacefully.
Pakistan has always advocated the policy of promoting brotherhood among member states of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and it is concerned over the ongoing tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The prime minister will arrive in Zurich, Switzerland at the conclusion of his visit to Saudi Arabia and Iran to represent Pakistan at the World Economic Forum at Davos.
