ISLAMABAD: International Tennis Federation has once again deprived Pakistan of hosting Davis Cup Tie turning down the appeal of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) to allow the Group I Pakistan vs China Davis Cup Tie in Pakistan.
Despite hectic efforts by the PTF, the ATF, PSB, Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Inter Provincial Coordination, as well as the POA, the International Tennis Federation has, regrettably, once again, turned down.
PTF’s Appeal to allow the Davis Cup tie in Pakistan, scheduled to be held from March 4 to 6, 2016, said a press release issued here Friday.
The statement mentioned that as it was to be a home tie for Pakistan, the PTF had the option to hold the tie at neutral venue or play in China, thereby conceding the right of choice of court surface and venue.
However, after having tried for grass courts in India, as well, and then being advised that the NOC of the Indian Government, if at all issued, would take months, the Davis Cup Committee of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, which includes the country’s top present and past players, decided to hold the tie at a neutral venue, and Colombo, Sri Lanka was nominated for the tie.
The Sri Lankan Tennis Association (SLTA), which has conveyed its agreement in principle to hold the event, will offer Clay courts as the surface, the same where Pakistan won its tie against Kuwait last March
