Liver transplantation to be performed at Gambat from Jan 21: Minister


KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Health, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that Liver Transplantation will be started at Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences from January 21 while the same will be done at Dow and SIUT in next month.

Meanwhile, A 100 bedded hospital at NIPA Chowrangi Karachi will be made functional during this fiscal year and OPD, Paeds Ward, Gyane Ward, Orthopedic Ward and General Surgery will be functional there.

The Sindh Health Minister said while talking to media persons here on Friday.

He said that Dr Adeeb Rizvi had rendered tremendous job and due to his sincere efforts SIUT had become an institution of international repute and its all requirements were meted out before time.

To reduce burden of patients at NICH, a children hospital in collaboration with Japan was being made functional under Indus for better health facilities, while the performance of Civil Hospital Karachi, Services Hospital and Public Hospitals had been enhanced, he said.

The Minister Health said that the coverage of vaccination in Thar was more than 85 per cent and this achievement was acknowledged by USAID as well.

Jam Mehtab was of the opinion that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Trauma Centre, Civil Hospital Karachi was one of the biggest milestone in the history of Pakistan and it was one of the largest health service providers in Asia. He said that as soon as it started its work, it would benefit thousands of people.

He said that action was being taken against ghost staff in Health Department. Hundreds of long-absent doctors had been removed from their services.

He said that supply of medicines to the patients was ensured, while corrupt officials were being taken to task. These measures have brought good results, he concluded.
