Happy Birthday to father of Pakistan cricket ‘Abdul Hafeez Kardar’

WEB DESK: On this day, 17 January, in 1925 Abdul Hafeez Kardar was born in Lahore.

He is one of the only three players to have played test cricket for both Pakistan and India, the other two players are Gul Muhammad and Amir Ilahi.

He was the first captain of Pakistan cricket team and is also known as the father of Pakistan cricket.

The first ever victory for Pakistan came under his captaincy against India.

As a left handed batsman he made 6, 832 runs and took 344 wickets as a left-arm orthodox bowler in his first class career.

He retired in 1958 and later became president of Pakistan Cricket Board in 1970s and resigned in 1977.
