Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Thursday staged a protest against the death sentence awarded to JI senior leader Motiur Rahman Nizami by Bangladeshi highest court. The protest led by JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch was attended by a large number of JI activists at main Aabpara Chowk.
The protesters were holding placard and banners inscribed with slogans “We want justice for Nizami”, and chanted slogans against the Bangladeshi government.
Heavy contingent of police personnel was deployed on the occasion to avert any untoward incident. The protest was also attended by MNA Nafeesa Khattak and Mian Aslam. Liaqat Baloch while speaking on the occasion said that the execution of Rahman Nizami is the killing of justice.
He said that this proves that Sheikh Haseena Wajid is attempting to remove her opponent from her way to prolong her regime. “Bangladeshi government is taking action against the JI on the behest of Indian government which is against the international law,” he said.
Zubair Hafeez, JI senior leader, said that awarding death sentence to Nizami is violation of international laws therefore United Nations should seek a reply from the Bangladeshi government. He demanded of international community to play its role for abolishing of measures taken by Bangladeshi government against the international laws.
