Altruism in its true sense

WEB DESK: This was a marriage of a different kind– the bride was acid burn survivor. Kudos to her for having the courage to fight against all the odds and spread smiles.

The ceremony was organized by the Depilex Smileagain Foundation, which helps female survivors of of acid and kerosene oil burns in Pakistan by providing them appropriate medical attention and reconstructive surgery, psychological/psychiatric support, shelter and vocational training.

The aim is to create social awareness and sensitivity by working towards the complete eradication of this heinous crime.

Recently, the foundation backed an acid burn survivor called Sarwari in tying the knot. The Chairperson of the NGO, Masarrat Misbah herself adorned her for her big day.

The foundation was conceptualised in 2003 as a support and assistance group for women who are victims of domestic violence with special emphasis in the area of deliberate acid and kerosene burning.
