WEB DESK: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani inaugurated the Heart of Asia conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, Aaj News reported.
The conference is also being attended by Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj who arrived the capital on Tuesday. It is expected that the stalled peace talks between the two rival neighbours will revive during this conference.
Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani arrived at the prime minister’s house in Islamabad following the inauguration of the ‘Heart of Asia’ conference on Wednesday, where he is set to have a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Speaking at the conference Indian FM, Swaraj said, “There is no way for Afghan progress except the economic building,” she said, adding the country is threatened most by terrorism.”
She said that establishing peace in Afghanistan is a responsibility shared by India and Pakistan.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that it was important to talk about all the problems Afghanistan is facing.
“Our children have been murdered while playing in fields, our women have been murdered while going shopping or to schools, our hospitals and mosques have bee attacked, and terrorism has now become a regional, national and global phenomenon,” he said.
He added that the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azab in Pakistan had transferred terrorists to Afghanistan.
Despite recuperating from terrorism he said, “Our will is strong and our security fores will do everything to deal with terrorism.”
