ISLAMABAD: Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday said phenomenal successes had been achieved in operation Zarb-e-Azb during the last one and a half year.
The ISPR statement said last pockets close to Pak-Afghan border were being cleared and backbone of terrorists had been broken and their main infrastructure dismantled. Nexus with sleeper cells had also largely been disrupted.
“Intelligence Based Operations are continuing to burst remaining sleeper cells,” it said.
Director General ISPR Asim Bajwa said during this period, 3, 400 terrorists were killed and 837 hideouts, from where they were carrying out their terrorists activities, had been destroyed.
He said in all, 13, 200 intelligence based operations were carried out across the country in which 183 hardcore terrorists were killed and 21, 193 others arrested.
ISPR said that success came at a heavy price as 488 valiant officers and men of Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and other law enforcing agencies sacrificed their lives and 1, 914 injured in Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
“Besides, 142 cases had been referred to total 11 military courts in the country. Of them, 55 cases have been decided and 87 are in process,” said ISPR.
It further said 31 hardcore terrorists had been convicted.
