The Mirza group won all 14 constituencies of the municipal committee, according to unofficial results.
The former home minister was once slain Benazir Bhutto’s closest aide.
However, in the last few months he expressed serious differences with the PPP leadership, particularly former president Asif Ali Zardari.
In the local body elections held on Thursday he teamed with Pakistan Muslim League- Functional and ran a vicious campaign against PPP.
A day before the election he held a rally at Pingrio where he said that the people of Badin do not trust the PPP leadership any more.
“PPP leaders through the former president of PPP Badin are committing millions of rupees corruption in mega projects,” he said.
He said some elements of PPP are threatening his supporters of dire consequences
Mirza said that the persons, who hurl threats should understand that November 19, 2015 will be a memorable day for them when the people of Badin will cast votes to their rights, but not to the persons who looted their assets ruthlessly.
The results of the local bodies election show that Mirza probably lived up to his words.
