‘Tamasha’ fails to become Ranbir’s biggest opener

WEB DESK: Bollywood movie “Tamasha” has got a decent opening at the Indian box office, but has failed to beat the first day collection record of Ranbir Kapoor’s “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” (YJHD) and “Besharam”.

The Imtiaz Ali directed romantic-drama flick released across 2100 screens in India and received a decent response from the audience earning Rs 10.87 crore on its opening day (November 27).

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the numbers.

Tamasha also opened to 571 screens abroad on the first day. Taran tweeted the earnings from overseas.

The film registered an average of 40+ occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes in the morning show on Friday. The movie received positive reviews from the viewers and critics and the word of mouth took its business upwards in the afternoon and evening shows.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” has collected Rs 19.45 crore nett from 3,100 screens at the domestic box office on the first day and it was the biggest opener for Ranbir Kapoor. His 2014 release “Besharam” collected Rs 21.56 crore from 3,600 screens on its first day and turned the biggest opener for the actor.

After witnessing the hype surrounding the movie, trade analysts had predicted that “Tamasha” would get an earth-shattering response and beat the records of “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and “Besharam” but the predictions proved wrong as the film could not beat the record and has become the third biggest opener for the actor.
