Royal Palm Club deal illogical: Khawaja Saad

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said the department considers deal of Royal Palm Club as invalid and illogical.

Talking to media after attending Senate Standing Committee on Railways meeting at PR Headquarters here on Monday, he said it was unfortunate the former PR administration also supported the Royal Palm Club deal in the Supreme Court.

He said the secret of the deal opened in 2013 when he had taken over the charge as minister of the railways the drama was staged to support a party, adding that he re-initiated the seized case of Royal Palm in the court.

The minister appealed the Apex Court to announce the decision of Royal Palm Club on urgent basis.

He said the court had ordered the PR to present business proposal, otherwise, the PR administration did not want to continue work with the administration of Royal Palm, however, the PR presented business proposal before the court.

“If the court decides on the base of the business proposal, the PR will get default amount,” he added.

He said the PR would utilise the land of the Club for its own purposes if the court decides to hand over the land occupied by the club, however the court would decide the final fate of the club.

He again requested the honourable court to give decision on the case on urgent basis so that railways assets could be recovered soon.

To a question, he said that over-speeding was the major cause of Jafer Express train accident and report in this regard would be presented in one or two days, adding the driver tried to stop the train but failed to do so.
