PESHAWAR: Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Major General Asghar Nawaz here Friday said that at least 29 people were killed in FATA areas while in all 81,000 houses were destroyed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to October 26 earthquake.
Talking to media persons Nawaz said that 495 school buildings were destroyed by the quake while Chitral district was the mostly affected area where 17,500 houses were destroyed. Rehabilitation activities in affected areas were underway, he said.
The Chairman told media that till now 11,000 waterproof tents have been provided to the affectees adding in FATA most of the heirs of dead have also been compensated.
He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has released Rs 3 billion for the rehabilitation of the quake-affectees while the federal government has also issued Rs 1.5 billion for this national cause. He added the KP government has further pledged Rs 6 bln for the purpose.
