Pakistan on Sunday called for global unity and unified approach to effectively counter the menace of terrorism, saying terrorists are nobody’s friend but enemies of humanity.
Speaking at a charity event organized by Foreign Office Women’s Association (PFOWA) at Foreign Office, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said that Pakistan is determined to root out the menace of terrorism from its soil, adding Pakistan is well on its way with a complete victory against terrorists.
Before formally opening the event, a one mine silence was observed to express solidarity with victims of Paris terrorist attacks. The participants of the event were among the diplomatic corps and their families, Foreign Office officials and their families and common citizens. More than 50 foreign embassies have also installed stalls to partake in the charity event.
Speaker National Assembly Sardary Ayaz Sadiq and his spouse Reema Ayaz Sadiq attended the event as chief guests while Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi was also present on the occasion.
“We fought this war in our markets, schools, grounds and by the grace of Allah, we can say with great confidence the whole nation is united against this menace, which must be punished by a unified approach by every country,” Foreign Secretary said, adding every country must cooperate for compete eradication of terrorism and extremism.
He gave the credit to the leadership of the country who brought about a much needed political consensus in the country to fight this terrorism regardless of the cost. “The terrorists are no friends of anyone and the national consensus has enabled Pakistan to launch a major military as well as a civil operation against terrorists to clean up our country,” he added. The moment of the silence that we observe to express solidarity with the French people at this hour of grief, he said, adding we must also not forget the victims of the worst terrorist attack in Beirut, Lebanon.
The Foreign Secretary said Pakistan strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris that have resulted in the loss of more than 127 precious lives. “Pakistan stands with the victims of the terrorists attack in this hour of grief and pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” he said.
Later talking to reporters, Aizaz Chaudhry ruled out the possibility of presence of the global terrorist organisation Daesh in the country, adding Pakistan is fully capable to thwart any threat of Daesh or any other terrorist outfit.
“No one will be allowed in the country to have link with Daesh”, he said, adding Pakistan is winning the war against terror with full support of the nation and its people.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan abhors all manifestations of terrorism and extremism and stands firmly behind the people and government of France amidst Paris terrorist attacks.
Describing terrorism a common challenge for the modern human civilisation, he said that such heinous attacks are carried out in contradiction of every moral and religion.
He pointed out that Pakistan has been a victim of terrorism for more than a decade by sacrificing precious lives of more that 65,000 people and understands the pain and sufferings that France is experiencing in this hour.
He asserted the need of joined efforts to eradicate this evil, adding Pakistan has been bravely combating against terrorism by taking extraordinary strategic measures and can extend its support to the world community to end this menace.
Earlier, the Speaker National Assembly inaugurated the annual charity bazaar and said that this event has provided a unique opportunity to showcase diverse cultures with a noble cause of strengthening PFOWA’s philanthropic projects.
He also appreciated the organisers for their initiatives in celebrating cultural diversity on a single platform.
Mrs. Ayaz Sadiq also addressed the ceremony and said that such philanthropic events with an aim to support the underprivileged segments of the society are heaven on earth and nothing is better than serving the humanity. She also lauded the efforts of the organisers for administering the charity bazaar successfully.
President of PFOWA Najia Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, while addressing the participants, said that event was organized to collect donations for the charitable activities and especially towards education.
