WEB DESK: Political parties on Monday raised their voice for making Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) a part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province and demanded the centre to abolish the doctorial Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) law.
Hundreds of residents of different Tribal agencies belonging to various political parties, including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam (JUI-Fazal) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) participated in the demonstration at D-Chowk.
The protesters were holding their party flags and called for merging FATA into KP so that people could get access to facilities offered to residents of settled areas. The protesters were holding placards and banners and chanting slogans ‘Go FCR Go’, ‘Merge FATA in KP’ and ‘Give us rights. Heavy contingent of Islamabad police were deployed on the occasion to avert any untoward incident.
Sirajul Haq Ameer JI addressing participants of the protest said that due to black laws the residents of tribal areas so far have not been given facilities offered to the people in settled areas of the country. What is the fault of FATA people and why we have deprived them of all basic facilities?, he questioned.
Speaking on the occasion, former information minister KP Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that the residents of FATA should be liberated from black laws of FCR and they should be provided their due rights like other settled areas. He urged the government to merge FATA into KP and stop remote controlling of the Tribal areas.
Aftab Sherpao chief of Qaumi Wattan Party (QWP) said that abolishment of Frontier Crime Regulation or FCR is mandatory for maintaining law and order in FATA. “Without abolition of FCR maintaining law and order in Tribal areas is impossible”, he said. He said that FCR is a discriminatory law. Under the rule, the entire clan will bear the burnt for the sin of a single individual.
Asad Umar, senior PTI leader, addressing the participants of protest said that his party will support people of FATA whether they want to merger in KP or want separate province. “It was high time that rules imposed by Britishers are abolished and the residents of Tribal areas should be allowed to live under the law of land”, he said.
Akhunzada Chattan former PPP MNA said that people of FATA have been suffering for last many years due to militancy therefore they should be provided their basic rights. A governor can not control FATA which consists of seven tribal agencies therefore it is need of the hour to merge it into KP, he said.
