KARACHI: Residents of Moon Garden heaved a sigh of relief after the Sindh High Court ordered a stay against their eviction, Aaj News reported.
Young and old said that they were sure that the court would not snatch the roof from over their heads.
For the last three days the residents had been sitting outside their houses in protest after the land their apartment was built on was declared illegal.
The residents claim they were unaware about the illegal status of the land, and they had spent several years of their income to purchase these apartment.
A few days ago the government declared that the land actually belonged to the Railways– causing widespread anguish among residents and rights activists.
Several political leaders came forward to prevent eviction including PML-N’s Saad Rafique and PTI’s Imran Khan.
