Hindu residents finalize Diwali arrangements

KARACHI: Some 900,000 of hindu residents of Karachi are finalizing arrangements for the three day Diwali festival, that as per religious calculations of time (mahurat) shall begin on 5:30 pm Wednesday evening.

The main ceremony will be held at Swami Narayan Temple with similar programs at other major temples in the metropolis including Laxmi Narayan Mandir at Netty Jetty, Punj Mukhi Mandir at Soldier Bazar and Narayanwara Temple.

Ceremonies to mark beginning of Dewali are also scheduled to be held from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at many other small and midsized temples mainly located in old parts of Karachi.

President, Pakistan Hindu Council, MNA Dr. Ramesh Vankwani, belonging to PNL (N) talking to APP Tuesday said members of his community settled in other parts of the province have also chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the festival in a befitting manner.

A major ceremony is scheduled to be held at Mithi Wednesday evening and will be graded by PPP chairman, Bilawal bhutto Zardari.

He said the Diwali, that is celebrated to rejoice victory of righteous, holds particular relevance this year as the province is going for local bodies elections in many of its part.
