ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly will announce a schedule for Speaker’s election on Friday. According to sources, the 25th session of National Assembly will meet on November 6 and a schedule will be announced for the election of National Assembly’s Speaker.
As per the schedule, candidates will submit their nomination papers on Saturday before 12 noon and election will be held on Monday for the slot of National Assembly’s Speaker.
“The Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2015” will also be passed to protect court officials and witnesses, it is learnt. The Senate has already passed “The Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2015.
According to statement of objects and reasons of “The Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2015”, “An extraordinary situation and circumstances exist which demand special measures for speedy trial of certain offences relating to terrorism.”
“There exists a grave and unprecedented threat to the integrity of Pakistan by raising arms and insurrection using name of religion or sect by groups of foreign and locally funded elements using name of religion or sect who are to be severely dealt with under the law.” The sources maintained that after recent local bodies’ elections in Lahore, top leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) showed confidence in Sardar Ayaz Sadiq who won NA-122 by-election and decided to re-elect him as NA Speaker.
As per rules, “Whenever the office of the Speaker or of his deputy becomes vacant, an election to fill that slot ‘shall’ be held if the National Assembly is in session as soon as possible; and if it is not in session, at the commencement of its next sitting.”
The sources said that as many as four persons including Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Babar Nawaz of PML-N, Riaz Ul Haq independent and Dr Sobia of PPP would be administered oath in the first sitting of the session.
