KARACHI: Counting of votes of first ever local bodies elections in Islamabad capital territory is underway.
Voters turned up in large numbers at the polling stations to use their right of franchise.
A great enthusiasm was witnessed especially in the rural areas of the capital territory where men and women voters queued up outside the polling stations to cast their vote.
Over 2400 candidates were in the race for 650 seats of councillors, chairmen and vice chairmen in fifty union councils.
Pakistan Muslim League-N fielded 506 while 479 candidates contested elections on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf tickets. 972 independent candidates were also in the fray.
