WEB DESK: After getting an open letter from Peshwa Bajirao’s descendant, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial ‘Bajirao Mastani’ has landed into another controversy. History purists are now trying to get the film banned, Mid-day reported.
To revolt against the Ranveer and Deepika starrer, history purists have taken to social media. They have created a Facebook page that claims to highlight the twisted facts, which are being portrayed in the movie and the page is getting likes at a rapid pace which depicts that the anti-Bajirao Mastani campaign is gaining momentum.
The FB page is described as, “This movie is purely insulting the glorious History of Shri Bajirao Peshwa. Let’s not forget his valor. Let’s work together to halt misrepresentation.”
Letters written to the filmmaker as well as the one written to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, have also been shared on the page.
Earlier, Bajirao’s kin, Mohini Karkarey, wrote an open letter to Bhansali claiming that he should have researched before filming the song ‘Pinga’ as Kashbai, whose character is being played by Priyanka Chopra, wouldn’t have danced like this because firstly, she wasn’t in the best of her health and secondly, it was not in their culture.
She also wrote in the open letter that Kashibai and Mastani met only once in their lifetime and that too very formally.
Though, the director himself is silent on the on going controversies, one of the lead actress, Priyanka Chopra commented on it during the trailer launch of the flick.
The Quantico lady said that this film is based on a book called ‘Rao’ which narrates the author’s version of Bajirao-Mastani’s love story and it should not be taken otherwise.
The other lead actress, Deepika Padukone also opened up on the issue and said that Bhansali is the right person to comment on it and she would let him wipe off all controversies.
Well, no publicity is bad publicity ! It seems that such controversies are creating more hype and curiosity for the film among the viewers. It might have a good effect on the magnum opus box office collection.
Bajirao Mastani is slated to hit silver screens on 18th December.
