LAHORE: Resuming the hearing of a suo-motu case about murder of Zain Rauf, an orphan killed by Mustafa Kanju – son of former minister of state for foreign affairs Siddique Khan Kanju, the Supreme Court decided to issue an appropriate order after receiving a copy of Punjab government appeal filed against Kanju acquittal in Lahore High Court.
Punjab Inspector General Police Mushtaq Sukhera had arranged foolproof security in pursuance of the court’s earlier directives as Zain’s mother along with her two daughters and maternal uncle appeared before the court with heavy contingent of police.
A three-judge bench of the Justice Amir Hani Muslim asked Zain mother that how her son was killed to which she scarily responded that she cannot fight with the accused, adding that she has been bearing the great loss of her son’s death as the will of God.
Justice Amir Hani Muslim said that no one is above the law, saying prima facie the Anti Terrorism Court has not applied judicial mind during adjudication of the current matter. Later, the bench recorded statements of Zain’s mother and his maternal uncle in chamber.
The bench said in open court that after receiving a copy of appeal of the Punjab government filed against acquittal of Kanju before Lahore High Court, the court will issue an appropriate order in the case. Issuing directives to Punjab Inspector General Police to ensure safety of the deceased family members. The bench adjourned hearing of the case till date in office.
