KARACHI: Karachi University named a research institute after a German scientist’s name. The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences called it the institute of Prof Wolfgang Voelter.
The news was been confirmed by the Director ICCBS-UoK Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary while he was talking to a delegation of scientists at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi (UoK) on Tuesday.
Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary said that Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, former Chairman Higher Education Commission, was in Germany where he would deliver a lecture in honour of Prof. Wolfgang Voelter on the invitation of Tübingen University.
He went on to say that the University is honouring Prof. Voelter with the Tübingen University Award 2015 in recognition of his outstanding services. He has made major contributions in the promotion of science and technology in Pakistan.
A generous German financial support 2.3 million DM, later enhanced to 5.8 million DM was also recommended by Prof. Voelter, Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman added.
In his message, Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman said that Prof. Voelter was one such man who had left a mark on science in Pakistan. He is famous in many other developing countries as well including China, Jordan, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece and others.
He further added that the students who worked with him had had their lives changed in miraculous ways.
