WEB DESK:Pakistani High Commission staff received Geeta along with Bilquis Edhi at the Dehi Airport but the families who claimed Geeta haven’t arrived yet, Aaj News reported.
Earlier there were several claims on Geeta due to which it is unclear whether she will be handed over to her family immediately or not. The plane in which Geeta was traveling back home has landed safely at the Dehli airport.
A large group welcomed Geeta at the airport including members of the Pakistan High Commission in India.
As her plane touched down, Sushma Swaraj, Indian foreign minister said, tweeted “welcome, home our daughter”.
Earlier, Geeta thanked Pakistanis for giving her so many beautiful memories in a press conference before departing from Jinnah Terminal, Karachi.
“All the [travel] expenses were sponsored by Indian authorities,’ said Faisal Edhi at a press conference held at the Karachi Airport.
She was accompanied by five members of Edhi Foundation to ensure her safe departure. Geeta arrived at the IGI airport in Delhi at 10.20am by Pakistan International Airlines Flight 272 from Karachi.
In the evening, Pakistan high commissioner Abdul Basit and his wife will host a reception for Geeta and those accompanying her.
Although Geeta is quite sure that the family in Bihar which has made the claim is her own, she will be handed over only after DNA tests. If the tests turn out negative she will be handed over to a care home either in Delhi or in Indore.
Indian authorities are proceeding with caution as four families have claimed Geeta’s custody.
