LAHORE/ ISLAMABAD/ PESHAWAR: Severe jolts of an earthquake shook Islamabad and northern parts of Pakistan.
The magnitude of the earthquake is 8.1 on the Richter scale, Aaj News reported.
Death toll from the earthquake has reached 200 in Pakistan, while over 277 are reported dead in the region.

Punjab’s Provincial Minister for Labor Raja Ishfaq Sarwar and Minister for Mineral Development Ch. Sher Ali Tuesday visited provincial metropolis of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and handed over 50 trucks of relief goods along with health and rescue teams.
Over 3000 houses have been destroyed in Peshawar.
Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef addressed a high level meeting to evaluate the damage done by earthquake. He said announced a relief package for victims, though he did not divulge its details.

1:00 pm Pakistan Army rescuers on Tuesday rushed to deliver relief aid to victims of a massive earthquake that hit northern Afghanistan and Pakistan. The rescue aid included 12000 packets of fruit cakes, 1000 bags of food and 1200 tents. the aid will be sent to Bajaur Agency, Malakand division, Chitral and other areas from Peshawar. At least, 26 food distribution points have been set up for this purpose. 12:10 pm The injured of the earthquake are being treated at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. Over 176 patients have been brought to the hospital.

Pakistan refuses aid
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcast Pervez Rashid on Monday said Pakistan did not need foreign assistance for relief and rehabilitation of people adversely affected by yesterday’s earthquake.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered assistance to Pakistan, which the Information Minister rejected saying that Pakistan is a country of more than 180 million people, and they don’t plan to seek help from other nations. He said Pakistan has enough resources to handle the situation.
Over 1800 injured
At least 1,800 more were injured and hundreds of homes destroyed as the quake shook a swathe of the subcontinent, sending thousands of frightened people rushing into the streets in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India.

Rescuers on Tuesday picked their way through rugged terrain and pockets of Taliban insurgency in the search for survivors after a massive quake hit Pakistan and Afghanistan, killing at least 277 people.
The toll was expected to rise as search teams reach remote areas that were cut off by the powerful 7.5 magnitude quake, which triggered landslides and stampedes as it toppled buildings and severed communication lines.
A landslide in Skardu and Gilgit Baltistan has blocked communication.
Medics are treating the injured being brought to hospitals.
Emergency has been declared at hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where 500 people have been reported injured.
Although the most horrific earthquake of Pakistani history was in 2005 with 7.6 Richter scale reading its tremors were slightly towards the surface but this earthquake with 8.1 magnitude was deeper as compare to the previous one, it has been speculated that the damage will be lesser.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that they ‘stand ready for assistance where required, including Afghanistan & Pakistan’. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been affected the most with 8.1 magnitude hit. As the dust settles death toll soars, now it stands at 39 people dead.
The death toll rose to 27 people in earthquake-hit areas and more than 400 people are injured.
At least 18 people died in this natural disaster, according to the Initial death toll reports.
Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) stopped the domestic match at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore which was in progress when jolts of earthquake were felt. This hasty measure was taken due to security measures.
Army troops have been deployed and hospitals are on high alert, ISPR representative Asim Bajwa tweeted.
At least two people died and 50 were injured in Chitral , Aaj News reported.
In Peshawar four people died and four have been reported injured.
The chief of army staff Raheel Sharif ordered immediate aid without any further delay. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the all departments for immediate aid in the affected areas.
Notable figures like Documentary Maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Ambassador for street children Reham Khan tweeted on social media websites.
People from earthquake affected areas ran out of their houses. Two people died and 34 were injured in Peshawar. Tremors were felt for over two minutes in Kurram Agency.
A journalist from Kabul said that he felt the earthquake too.
Another journalist from Peshawar tweeted that a building outside his house collapsed.
News agency Bloomberg reported that tremors were also felt in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush mountains.
