WEB DESK: The Pakistan Academy selection committee has chosen Jamshed Mahmood’s movie ‘Moor’ as a contender in the foreign language film category at the 88th Academy Awards.
The movie already made its mark as a remarkable piece in the country after its release. It was produced by Azad Film Co. and Mandviwalla Entertainment, “Moor” was released on Aug. 14 by Geo Films in Pakistan to critical and commercial acclaim. It will have its international premiere at the Busan Intl. Film Festival in October, in the A Window on Asian Cinema strand.
The film follows a station master who fights to save a station from closure and his efforts to reconcile with his son, who faces struggles of his own in the big city. The film stars Hameed Sheikh and Samiya Mumtaz.
The deadline to enter in the Academy’s foreign-language film race is Oct. 1 and the nominations will be announced Jan. 16 after the entries have been shortlisted to nine films. The Oscar ceremony takes place Feb. 28 in the Dolby Theatre.
