ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said the government believes in freedom of media and is playing a key role in national development and safeguarding of national interests.
He was talking to Special Assistant on National Affairs Irfan Siddique, who is also heading the committee to formulate a Code of Ethics for the Media, here at the PM House.
The Prime Minister termed the consensus on the Code of Ethics for electronic media as a positive development.
He appreciated the performance of the Committee and expressed the hope that serious efforts would be made to implement it.
The Prime Minister said media’s role in countering terrorism, sectarianism and extremism was of vital importance.
SAPM Irfan Siddique briefed the Prime Minister about the new Code of Ethics.
