ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Tuesday said a mafia was hatching conspiracies against import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the government has signed a short term agreement with Qatar to purchase LNG at the cheapest price in Asia.
Under the agreement, Qatar would charge $7.7 per cft gas and some 24 cargo ships would be imported per annum, he said this while talking to a news channel.
The minister said the government had not yet signed the long-term agreement with the Qatar government. Whenever any such accord is inked, the purchase of LNG at the lowest rates would be ensured, he added.
He said the cargo ships terminal charges per day would be $150,000 and the 11th gas cargo ship would soon reach the terminal. The LNG would be supplied to non-working power plants, he added.
The minister said the government had signed an agreement with a company during the recent visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to Turkmenistan. The company would invest $25 billion in the project,he added.
Replying to a question, Minister said that the machinery for Nandipur project was purchased by previous government which kept idle for long time and got rusted, the plant could not run to its full capacity due to technical fault in Furnace Oil Treatment Plant and the plant will soon be converted on Gas.
