ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) Haji Muhammad Adeel Tuesday said that the resignation of Members of the election commission at this stage would trigger new constitutional crises in the country.
He said that the resignation of the Members of the ECP, on the demand of Imran Khan was not rational because his party had already contested bye elections and local government elections under the same Election Commission and it also accepted the results.
Adeel said that Imran Khan raised the demand of resignation from ECP members just to justify his sit-ins in Islamabad and to find an excuse to run away from local bodies and bye elections.
He said that local government elections would be delayed further with incomplete Election Commission.
Adeel said that even the new set up of the Election Commission would not satisfy Imran Khan because Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition would select new members with consultation as per the Constitution.
He claimed that demanding resignation from everybody was a trade mark of the PTI.
First, Imran Khan demanded resignation of the Prime Minister, now from Election Commission Members and Chairman NADRA. It would not be a good practice if members were forced for resignations on the demand of the political party. Leader of the JUI (F) Jan Achakzai Talking to this agency said that only electoral reforms would bring transparency and remove flaws in the election process adding that resignations demand was only a political move of Imran Khan.
He said that on one hand Imran had demanded the resignation of the ECP’s members while on other he was happy with the local government elections in KPK and his party had formed government in many districts.
Barrister Masroor Shah opined that the Supreme Judaical Council (SJS) was an appropriate forum to decide about fate of the ECP’s members and Imran Khan should wait for decision of the reference filed in SJC.
Barrister said that members of the ECP could not be held responsible for mismanagement in last General Elections as it were not conducted by the officials of the ECP.
