ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday expressed displeasure over Chief Secretary Sindh (CSS) on non provision of updated version of Sindh Local Government Act, 2013 and the Sindh Local Councils (Elections) Rules, 2015 and asked him to provide the updated Act and Rules within 48 hours.
The Secretary Election Commission has written a letter to the Chief Secretary, Government of Sindh in this regard and reminded him the commitment of finalizing the said Act and Rules by maximum of August 7, 2015 and its provision to the ECP at the earliest.
However, the Chief Secretary Sindh had failed to provide the aforementioned Act and Rules in spite of several requests made by the Election Commission Secretariat as well as by the Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh, said a letter.
The Secretary has stated in the letter that this position is clear lapse on the part of Chief Secretary and that the Election Commission has taken a serious notice of it. He has also been cautioned that if the election process is stalled or impeded, the responsibility will squarely lie on the Chief Secretary, Sindh for making commitment before the Election Commission of Pakistan.
