Election tribunal admits discrepancies in NA-154

WEB DESK: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf supporters cheered as the election tribunal read out its judgement on NA-154 in their favour, Aaj News reported.

The election tribunal has deseated PML-N parliamentarian Siddiq Baloch from the Lodhran constituency and has ordered re-election.

The tribunal has also placed a life-long restriction on Baloch on contesting elections for owning a fake degree.

Baloch had won this seat 11 times from this constituency. His seat was challenged by PTI’s Jehangir Tareen.

A large number of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf supporters had gathered outside the election commission building as they waited for results of the NA154 rigging allegation case.

The supporters included a large number of women who are sung songs in favour of PTI chief Imran Khan.

PTI had challenged PML-N parliamentarian Siddiq Baloch’s seat from Lodhran on charges of rigging.

Speaking to the media, Jehangir Tareen, thanked his supporters. “I praise the Lord,” he said.

Meanwhile, PML-N has said that it will not approach the supreme court but contest re-elections and let the public decide.

Earlier, the election tribunal ruled in favour of PTI when it agreed that elections in NA-122 Lahore had discrepancies.

After the judgement National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq was denotified from his seat. However, the PML-N leader has vowed to approach the Supreme Court with a plea.

In May the election tribunal had ordered re-poll in NA-125 where PML-N’s railway minister Saad Rafique was deseated. Later a decision by the Supreme Court restored Rafique on his seat.

Judgement for another seat in Sialkot awaits.

In August last year PTI Chief Imran Khan staged a 120 day sit-in in Islamabad for alleged rigging in the general elections. He agreed to call off the sit-in after the PML-N government agreed to form a judicial commission on four seats.
