President, Prime Minister agree to continue Karachi operation

KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif agreed to continue the ongoing Rangers operation against criminal elements in Karachi, it is learnt. The Prime Minister called on the President at Aiwan-e-Sadr Friday and held detailed consultations on matters relating to the operation Zarb-e-Azb, flood situation in Balochistan as well as Sindh and efforts for rehabilitation of flood victims.

According to sources, during the meeting appointments of law officers in the higher judiciary were also approved. The Prime Minister took the President into confidence on different national issues and related decisions of the government. According to a handout issued by the Secretariat of the President, the two leaders reviewed in detail Operation Zarb-e-Azb and actions being carried out in different parts of the country to eliminate lawlessness and terrorism and expressed satisfaction over the results, hoping that the situation would further improve as a result of these efforts.

The Prime Minister took the President into confidence on the overall situation prevailing in Balochistan and Sindh and government policies and decisions in this regard. The President and the Prime Minister noted with satisfaction positive results that are emerging following actions being taken to end lawlessness in these provinces.

The President advised the Prime Minister that the government should continue with its efforts to restore law and order and take measures for economic development and progress. Both the leaders also expressed satisfaction over the improvement in law and order situation in Karachi and interior Sindh and noted that performance of government departments has also improved. The two leaders agreed that the process of constructive measures should continue for improvement of situation in Sindh and Baluchistan.

Expressing satisfaction over efforts being carried out in different parts of the country for rehabilitation of flood affectees, the two resolved not to leave the flood affectees in the lurch and to mobilize all available resources for their rehabilitation. Both the leaders expressed deep grief over the army helicopter crash near Mansehra and prayed for salvation of the martyred army officers and Jawans.

The President and the Prime Minister agreed that countrywide work on public welfare projects in education and health sectors should continue expeditiously. President Mamnoon Hussain said that national economy is improving day by day and commended efforts of the Prime Minister and his team in this regard.
